The Arm Encircled Waist

By John Aldred

I envy the arm encircled waist
The touching foreheads
And the kissing lips.
The uninhibited stroll
In an enclosed world
Where lovers live.
The laughing banter
The touch and chase
The certainty of catching
A lover's warm embrace.

I envy the arm encircled waist
The locked fingers
And the close press.
The confident walk
In the enclosed world
Where lovers live.
The jesting trick
The pretended end
To ensure a relieved welcome
In a lover's open arms.

I envy the arm encircled waist
As I watch from the loneliness
Of fear and loss.
