Buying A Paper

By John Aldred

I'm thinking of buying a paper
But will it be tabloid or broadsheet
Is my mind in the mood of the Gods
Or down at the level of feet?

Do I feel like a diet of scandal
Or a challenge to an enquiring brain
A vision of youthful firm flesh
Or words to suffer the grey cells a strain.

I was thinking of buying a paper
The decision more difficult than I supposed
For having suitably washed and attired
I found the newsagent was closed.
